The Mountain Dulcimer is often regarded as one of the easiest stringed instruments to learn to play. This makes it a great entry for newcomers to stringed instruments in general. And what a great instrument to learn indeed!  And why should you learn an instrument?  How about:

1)   Playing an instrument helps you to be more creative. You may start out learning to play other musicians’ songs, but once you have a more complete understanding of your instrument, you will be able to do more on your own. This includes trying different sounds, arranging your own music, and possibly even writing your own songs.

2)   Playing an instrument boosts your confidence.  Instilling in you the courage to put yourself out there, believe in the work that you’ve put in, and be okay even if everything doesn’t go perfectly.

3)   Learning to play an instrument increases your patience and discipline. Playing an instrument is not easy and you’ll make many mistakes even after you learn how to play. But, it does teach you to be patient with yourself in the music-making process, while also training you to not give up when things get difficult.
